April 2008

The heated action took place at tables Ivey Thunderdome and Ivey Deathmatch. Phil Ivey played pot-limit Omaha against Tom “durrr” Dwan and both pot-limit Omaha and no-limit Texas against Hac “trex313” Dang.

We saw some huge pots and Ivey was on fire – ending up winning $544.000! The biggest loser was Tom Dwan – making huge losses worth $441.000, most of that money went to Phil Ivey.

Gus Hansen was the hottest topic during the WPT Championships $25.000 buy-in event. He was leading the tournament and entering the final table as the favourite to win the whole thing. The beginning of heads-up play looked even more promising as Gus had a 6:1 chiplead over David Chiu. Then things started to go wrong.

The last hand was pretty interesting:

Hansen raised to 750,000 pre-flop and Chiu called. The flop was Ac Tc 8s and Chiu checked. Gus then bet 900.000 – which was called by Chiu.

The turn brought 5s and now Chiu went on to bet 1,200,000. Hansen declared all-in. Chiu had to risk 8,675,000 more to make the call.

Chiu thought for a moment and then called with As 9s (top-pair and the nut flush draw) and Hansen showed Ts 8h (flopped two-pair).

The river was very unfortunate for Hansen as it brought the Ace of Hearts making trips for Chiu.

Here is the look of a very disappointed runner-up:

Final payouts:

1. David Chiu – $3,389,140
2. Gus Hansen – $1,714,800
3. John Roveto – $923,355
4. Cory Carroll – $593,645
5. Tommy Le – $395,725
6. Jeff King – $263,815

Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has been famous for making huge coinflips after some heated sessions. This time there were different players flipping for big amounts.

Sami “LrsLzk” Kelopuro was waiting opponents at Primas NL $100/200 tables when Terken89 sat down. But Terken89 didn’t want to play – but wanted to do some coinflips for $10.000 each.

Terken89 had luck on his hand – winning also with 8-high:

After that Kelopuro had some promblems with his kicker – Terken89 winning 3-1:

We also had a HUGE coinflip at Full Tilt Poker involving Brian Hastings and DaEvils – a pot worth over $100.000 with the handhistory:

Brian Hastings raises to $62,395.75, and is all in
DaEvils calls $49,692, and is all in

David Benyamine has been having a huge rollercoaster lately – on tuesday he won over $260.000 and yesterday he was going downhill and fast! Losing $447.000 during the day. The biggest winner was screenname pekay – taking home $185.000.

From pekay to David Benyamine:

pekay: i love u
pekay: but i dont want to bust u

Pekay has been another new screenname to immidiately start winning at the highest cash games at Full Tilt Poker. He seems to be from Sweden and propably a household name already – but who?

LarsLuzak no longer at Full Tilt?

Sami Kelopuro aka. LarsLuzak/LrsLzk/Barbaggo/Eskimoes7 has been playing lately mostly at the Betfair, Microgaming network and at Ladbrokes.

The games at Betfair have been running hot at the $250/500 tables, but on the other sites they have been running mostly at $100/200 NL.

He has had opponents like LIMPA_DIRR and Vo2Max challenging him at the $100/200 no-limit tables – but we still hope to see some action at the $200/400 tables. Yesterday he won around $90.000

Here is a screenshot from one of Kelopuros yesterdays pots:

Steve “MrSmokey1” Billirakis is very familiar name from both Full Tilt Pokers and PokerStars big cashgames. He has managed to build very nice stacks at Full Tilt:

He is also playing huge cashgames and tournaments at PokerStars. Last big tournament he entered was the $5.200 freezeout where he earned $50.000 for the win.

PokerStars has established itself as the number 1. pokersite – and has countinued to seek good representatives for the site.

Gavin Griffin and Chad Brown join team PokerStars

One of my all time favourite tournament player Gavin Griffin joined the team – you might know him as the only player to win EPT, WPT and WSOP-titles! He has over $4.500.000 in carreer winnings from tournaments.

Chad Brown is a veteran – already cashing nicely in the 1993 WSOP. His carreer winnings from tournaments top over $2.000.000. He also won the last “World Championship of Online Poker” H.O.R.S.E. event – earning him $223.000.

Yesterday was the day for Phil Galfond aka. OMGClayAiken – he ended up winning $418.000 during the day. Galfond was having nice stacks at two different tables:

Other big winners were “ICallSoWhat” $233.000 and Brian Rast aka. “tsarrast” $100.000. The biggest loser again was Ilari Sahamies aka. Ziigmund – losing over $300.000. Other big losers were David Benyamine and “present”, both of them losing around $250.000.

Here are a few hands from yesterday:

Rast trying to bluff Sahamies:
