March 2008

The newcomer yossarian_2_ has been the topic of discussion lately. He has been playing against anyone willing to play – not very common for newcomers. He has faced players like OMGClayAiken (Phil Galfond) and BoostedJ (Justin Smith).

Galfond has been also quite interested in the player behind yossarian_2_ screenname after losing $75.000:

OMGClayAiken: oh ok.. can i ask
OMGClayAiken: who you are?
OMGClayAiken: never seen you and you’ve been crushing high stakes out of nowhere
OMGClayAiken: well done
yossarian_2_: getting lucky
OMGClayAiken: nah you’ve been winning too long for it to be luck

yossarian_2_ states Canada as his residence – many are thinking that he might be Marc Karam aka. _myst_. Anyway the most important thing is that he is already up voer $300.000 playing with the big guys!

Sami Kelopuro (LarsLuzak/LrsLzk) has been recently playing more under the screenname EskiMoes7 at Betfair. The games have been as high as $250/500 Texas No-limit. And Erik Sagström has been quite active also.

Yesterday we saw players like sinceroo, kuna, dingdongboy and Erik “Erik1234” Sagström playing at the big table. The winner of that session was Erik1234 – winning $90.000. Kelopuro lost a bit, but has been winning a lot from Erik1234 at the $100/200 No-limit tables.

Erik seems quite frustrated about this – here is the chat:

The other hot player was a very well known online tournament player pbdrunks who played at the Second Chance tournaments final table and the Sunday Million final table! Unluckily he didn’t do too well at the final tables – earning himself 36k.

The $5.200 Freezeout was won by the actionplayer Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti.

The biggest online tournament got even bigger when PokerStars made Sunday Hundred Grand available for  22 500 players! And the tournament was full – the smalla $11 buy-in attracts lots of player to try to win tens of thousands! This time the winner was bubbaloo2.

Finnish pro-players decided to have a team poker challenge. Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and Patrik “FinddaGrind” Antonius challenged Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro and Jani “KObyTAPOUT” Vilmunen for a huge heads-up match.

Antonius would face Kelopuro in NL Texas Hold’em.

And Sahamies would face Vilmunen in pot-limit Omaha challenge.

If they would tie there would be a third match to decide the winner played by Antonius and Vilmunen in pot-limit Omaha.

The first match with Ziigmund and KObyTAPOUT was a fast one. KO got into a small chiplead and then they put all their money to the middle on the flop Ziigmund leading 51% to KO:s 49%. KO hit his hand on the turn and Ziigmund headed to the rail.

LarsLuzak got the early lead in the second match against Antonius and managed to get half of Patriks chips hitting two pairs. Antonius obviously was making a huge check-raise bluff on the turn risking hald of his stack – only to find Kelopuro moving all-in on him.

After a while Kelopuro got his money in nicely in front holding KJ against Patriks K2.. but the flop brought 224 and Patrik doubled up. The final hand was again both of them holding king-high – Kelopuro KQ and Antonius K9.. only this time Antonius didn’t get the 9 he was looking for.

So KObyTAPOUT and LarsLuzak win the bragging rights (and nice amount of money surely…)
